Coban Rondo Waterfall

>> Jul 2, 2014

Coban Rondo ecotourism is one of our visited tourist destinations that located in Pujon, Malang (East Java, Indonesia). From the hotel where we stayed, we reached the place in about thirty minutes. The place offers nature beauty like waterfall (84 meters height) and small forest, as well as outbound games.
Entry gate
Coban Rondo (local Javanese language) means widow waterfall. This place has a story behind, a sad one.
This place is never empty of visitors. You don't need to walk far to see the waterfall.
The legend of Coban Rondo
The origin of Coban Rondo ecotourism comes from a sad story of a newly married bride and groom. The bride named Dewi Anjarwati from Mount Kawi married to Raden Baron Kusuma from Mount Anjasmoro. When their marriage reached the age of 36 days, Dewi Anjarwati invited her husband visiting Mount Anjasmoro.

Parents of Dewi Anjarwati forbade the newlyweds traveled far but both insisted anyway. On the way, they were surprised by the presence of Joko Lelono whose origin was unknown. Joko Lelono captivated by the beauty of Dewi Anjarwati and intend to seize her. The fighting between Raden Baron Kusuma and Joko Lelono was inevitable.

To their helpers, Raden Baron asked them to hide his wife in a safe place with waterfall presence (coban). The fighting was fierce and both were killed. With the death of her husband, Dewi Anjarwati became a widow (rondo in the local language Java). It was said that since then, Coban where Dewi Anjarwati waited for the return of husband known as Coban Rondo, the widow waterfall. It was mentioned that a large rock under the waterfall was where the princess sat.

That's a sad story behind this beautiful place. Anyway, today is my husband's birthday. We don't have a special celebration but we planned to have dinner together. Happy birthday, dear husband.
