Safeguarding Your Home against Intruders

>> Dec 8, 2016

Nothing is more important than protecting your family. Unfortunately, the world is filled with violent people who will stop at nothing to take what you have. Some of these people will try to break into your home so they can steal your possessions. Criminals have become much more brazen in recent years. There has been an increase in home invasions where criminals will break into a home when the residents are still inside. It is your responsibility to prepare yourself for this type of possible criminal activity. Not doing so would be negligent on your part. Here are a few of the things you can do to safeguard your home and protect your family at the same time.

1. Never mention that you are going on vacation on social media.

Criminals are becoming smarter every day. They are now monitoring social media to find out when people are not at home. This will allow them to easily break into a home without encountering any problems. Many people post photos while they are still on vacation. Criminals look for this sort of thing. Do not discuss your vacation on social media until you have already returned home.

2. Place lights on your home's exterior that are activated by a motion sensor.

Light is a burglar's worst enemy. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a burglar does not want to attract attention when he is trying to break into your house. He wants to do his criminal deeds when it is pitch black outside. This is why you need to install lights on the outside of your home that turn on when there is movement in the area. This will scare any potential burglars away. It would also be wise to invest in some home invasion protection.

3. Subscribe to a home security monitoring service.

Installing a home security system is a wise decision on your part. It will lower your insurance premium and make your home safer at the same time. However, a security system by itself is not an effective enough solution. You need to connect your security system up to a home security monitoring service. This service will have a direct link to your security system. They will call the police if someone tries to break in. They will also contact the fire department if smoke is detected at your residence.
