Everything You Need to Know About Chandeliers and Maintenance

>> Apr 5, 2013

When you buy a new chandelier, there are many things you need to think about. Even though it will look beautiful, you still have to think about how you will hang it, how to keep it clean, and how to make sure that it is properly maintained. Many chandeliers are very heavy if you are holding them overhead trying to hang them in place, so it is probably a good idea to have someone help until you have it positioned properly. You may have to hire an electrician, because it will need to be wired correctly in order to work.  A quality chandelier is a significant investment so it is incredibly important to keep good care of it and avoid damaging the chandelier during installation or maintenance.

Care When Cleaning Your Chandelier

All lighting gets a bit dusty from time to time, so you will need to learn how to care for your chandelier. If your ceilings are high, then it might be best to pay a professional to clean it. If it is low enough that you can reach it with a small stepladder then you will need to do it with non-abrasive cleaners, so that it doesn’t rust or tarnish, depending on the type of metal that the design is made from. It will take quite a bit of time to clean the chandelier, because you will have to be very careful since the crystals will be fragile. If you break one off, then it could be very expensive to replace. Before you begin cleaning it, you should disconnect the power to it as well. Water and electricity just do not mix. Make sure that the bulbs are cool before you begin, so that you don’t burn yourself.  If you are unsure at any point of what you are doing, it is worth contacting a chandelier maker such as http://roccoborghese.com/ to make sure that the materials and substances that you are using are suitable for chandeliers.

Hiring a Professional Light Cleaning Service

Warm soapy water is the best thing that you can clean a chandelier with. After you have finished cleaning the lights, crystals, and base of the chandelier, you need to wipe everything dry, and let it set for a few hours. It needs to be completely dry before you connect it back to the power. Most manufacturers recommend doing an intensive cleaning about once every six months, with periodic quick cloth wipe down cleanings in between to rid the light of dust. If you decide that the project is a little more than you want to take on, then there are plenty of lighting companies that will offer affordable rates to clean all of your lighting devices on a routine schedule. It is probably better to leave it to the professionals, so that you don’t have to climb a ladder and become injured if you don’t know what you are doing.

Fashion and Gifts – Exploring the Significance of Jewellery

>> Apr 4, 2013

Jewellery is almost unique in the annals of human history, in that it provides a totally decorative function. There are some jewellery elements that have a practical function too – for example a medical aid bracelet, or a dog tag – but in general terms the only function of a necklace or an earring is to ornament the wearer.

It may be argued, from this standpoint, that there are certain textile based garments that also come under the heading of jewellery. These would have to be items that perform no practical function whatsoever, and are only worn with the intention of making the wearer look good. Potentially, some lingerie could fall into this category, though it would depend on the support function it fulfils: jewellery doesn’t even do that.

From wedding jewellery to children’s jewellery, these embellishments have a long history. The earliest known jewellery is dated to around 100,000 years ago – and it is clear from written and pictorial accounts that all the great civilisations of the earth made and used jewellery extensively.

The word itself is derived from the common practice of using jewels as the centrepiece of the decoration. A jewel, also known as a precious stone, is commonly defined as any type of mineral or rock that is polished to create a highly ornamental, universally beautiful item, which may then be set in a necklace, on a ring or in an earring as an item of personal embellishment.
Different stones have different meanings. The diamond, for example, is thought to express constancy in love and relationships. This is because of two things.

The diamond is only found in very specific areas of the Earth’s mantle; or at the sites of asteroid strikes. As such, it is perceived to be rare. It isn’t, there are plenty of diamonds taken from these sites – but the fact that such specificity of environment Is required to make a natural diamond has triggered the industry myth that it is an item of great rarity – like true love.

The other reason for a diamond being thought of as a token of true love is its durability. The word itself derives from an Ancient Greek word, adamos, which means “unbreakable” (among other things). The diamond is one of the hardest substances known to humanity and is almost impossible to destroy.

Giving diamond jewellery in particular as a gift, then, signifies an intention that the giver may not know exists. Diamonds are, by this understanding, absolutely inappropriate as childrens jewellery. Jewellery for kids is, or should be, much more concerned with looking and being fun: in general terms, silver charms and coloured glass are perfectly acceptable.

Many gemstones or precious stones have specific significance for gift giving. Some are birth stones, others are reputed to embody certain desirable characteristics. In general terms, the giver is thought to express the characteristic of the stone – so, to return to the diamond, if you give someone a diamond necklace or ring you are expressing the conviction that you will be with them forever. Hence the popular phrase and title of a James Bond novel and film – Diamonds Are Forever.

Different stones have different significance depending on which country they are given in; and on the overall purpose of the jewellery. For instance, a st9one in an engagement ring has specific relevance to fidelity and constancy.

Home Decor from Lounge to Garden – Getting Involved With Your Conservatory

The conservatory represents a unique home decor challenge, because it doesn’t have any walls. At best, it may have a brick dwarf wall, on which its side panes are mounted – but most of it is glass, designed to let the outside in.

This is the first clue as to good conservatory decoration, of course – or rather, as there are as many good decorative schemes as there are personalities, it’s the key to getting your head around decorating somewhere made essentially of windows. The outside view is the decor: so you start outside and work your way in.

There are two questions a person may wish to ask, when decorating conservatories UK. The first is “what is the conservatory used for?” and the second, “how much is too much?”.
Let’s look at those questions in order.

A conservatory was traditionally used for growing plants that would normally die in the British weather – that’s why it is called a conservatory, because it conserves things. These days, it is commonly used as an extension of the lounge; as a dining area; as a library; a games room; even as a kitchen. So asking what you are doing in it is a completely viable way to start thinking about its decor.

Ultimately the only really decorative hard elements of the conservatory are its frame and its floor. Specifying the right frame for the house the conservatory sticks off is a good start, then, to keeping it in the right style. And looking at the tiling on the floor, or maybe even introducing a raised wooden floor to keep a bare floorboard theme gong from the rest of the house, gives the “window room” its essential character.

Its purpose completes that character. In a lounge conservatory, it might be expected that you will install sofas and chairs, perhaps a coffee table too. So the question then is whether you will extend the decorative theme of the internal lunge, perhaps by having the same design of sofa but in mirrored colours; or whether you wish to create a whole separate feel for the conservatory. Perhaps a more rustic feel, or a place where you display the curios and artifacts brought back from your travels around the world.

All of this leads us nicely towards the second of our questions – how much is too much? When decorating a room for which the primary attraction is that the occupant gets to look out at a panoramic view of the world, bringing in a large quantity of clutter rather destabilises the point. Good conservatory design from a decorative point of view may use the visual cues outside the window as the major decorative theme, and introduce simple echoes of the plants and the shapes internally.

A key decorative element in a conservatory is organic life. Plants, for instance, can be introduced internally to give the whole space an air of connection with the world beyond. The colours and forms naturally link together, so the room’s occupant becomes attuned to the nature he or she was presumably interested in in the first place, when he or she specific a conservatory for his or her home.

Pictures may be hung in a conservatory if the right frame exists – or more commonly, you might use the external wall of the home, which is now shrouded in glass, as a picture wall. Again, plant motifs will work well.

Getting Benefits from Educator Educational Courses

Did your loved high school teenager already grumble about troubles in learning mathematics and science -like physics and chemistry- at school? Well, parents don’t need to be worried too much since many other high school students have the similar problems. There are lots of possible reasons behind this truth. I think the technique how those subjects are taught in school makes them very hard to comprehend and also less motivating to learn more.

This learning problem can’t be let unsolved. Hard-to-learn subjects such as mathematics and science are important subjects to learn and not only for the aim of getting good marks. For instance, having basic knowledge in math is required to be able to perform calculations in daily life.

During my high school period, a study subject would be a favorite one only if the teacher who taught the subject was able to explain the lesson in an understandable and enjoyable way. The funny and talkative teachers were often becoming favorite teachers by most students -as well as the subjects that they taught. So, in my opinion, the teacher or educator has very important role in encouraging and developing the learning enthusiasm of every student!

Nowadays, there are some online tutoring services that may help you in improving your child’s abilities related to some difficult academic subjects.
