Two Moms

>> Aug 30, 2014

Juno delivered three babies a few weeks ago, but sadly one kitten was found dead last week.

Juno's babies that captured last week:
Another pregnant cat named Lili was also in labor today! This afternoon, she delivered one baby.  After the first kitten came out, Lili looked uncomfortable and panicked. We thought that it’s because the laboring process. But it turned out that she heard Juno’s babies loud screaming from another room and she thought that they are her own babies. The new mom Lili was so confused. She couldn’t keep calm and kept trying to enter the room.

So since the mother Juno was okay, we decided to take two Juno’s babies close to Lili. What happened next? Lili calmed straightly and breastfed all three babies. Juno doesn’t angry at all.
Captured one hour ago. The baby in the middle is Lili's baby. I only took one shot, I didn't want to bother her with another flash light.
When writing this post, about eight hours ahead, it’s already night; I see Lili is with three babies right now –inside a box in our living room. She’s awake. Another mom Juno is sleeping on the sofa nearby.

We’re still worried as Lili’s stomatch is still big. Since she doesn’t show any sign to labor another baby again, my brother planned to take new mom Lili to the vet in the morning next day. I worry about the babies inside Lili’s womb, are they still alive?

Eating Healthy at Work

>> Aug 28, 2014

Is it possible to have a healthy diet in the workplace? Eating healthy foods in the workplace is a challenge for many people. The main cause is you are so busy in the office that makes no time to enjoy healthy food.

The food that sold usually practical food and don’t have adequate nutritional content. Another challenge is because healthy food is commonly not preferred and defeated by fast food. However, unhealthy foods may certainly harm your health and in addition, it will make you gain weight.

Don’t forget breakfast.
Breakfast will increase productivity as it can reduce fatigue, drowsiness and help  you to concentrate better. When you wake up, the brain metabolism increases so that glucose needed for added energy. Glucose in body in the morning declines since you don’t eat all night while sleeping. A good breakfast menu is a food that requires time to digest, such as whole wheat bread with a fried egg plus onions, peppers, and tomatoes.

Don’t miss lunch.
Lunch should not be done at your desk, but move to another place so that your body and mind refreshed and improve your mood. Note also the lunch menu is selected. It is okay to occasionally have lunch at a roadside restaurant with a less healthy menu. However, don’t do it every day. Eating out is fine but it should still meet the needs of the body of the fiber, protein, and carbohydrates. Good lunch menu is 50% fruits and vegetables, 25% protein and 25% carbohydrate.

The rule of eating healthy snacks is concerned servings and calories. They seem small and not filling you up, but you shouldn’t include too many calories from snacks as it may cause weight gain. Also avoid eating fried foods often since they contain excessive fat.

Healthy snacks menu are foods like boiled potatoes or boiled bananas, wheat biscuits, yogurt, or dark chocolate.

Tea and coffee.
Tea and coffee accompany your daily times at the office. For some people, drinking tea and coffee has become a habit that is difficult to stop. Even your body feels less powered unless you drink any of it. Consuming tea and coffee is fine as long as not too much.

Servings of tea and coffee, it is suggested a teaspoon of tea or coffee with a half of one tablespoon of sugar, and it does not exceed two cups a day. It would be better if it is not mixed with sugar, milk or creamer because it will increase the calories.

Healthy dinner.
If you only use the night to rest, carbohydrate servings at dinner could be reduced. If you have to stay late and choose to eat at home by holding hunger, you may choose a healthy snack or fruit.

Suggested dinner menu are vegetables, protein or fruit. By taking meals with appropriate portions and composition, it will help you have enough energy to perform day-to-day activities, avoid the disease, maintain a healthy weight  and physical appearance.

Your Cooking Ways Determine Your Food Nutrition

>> Aug 26, 2014

Various cooking ways are used to make food tastes good -boiling, steaming, frying to grilling up. Food is also served with mashed way, chopped, or served the whole. The bottom line is; every cooking method doesn’t have the same effect on one’s health. The way you cook determines the food nutrition that you get.

Ines Birlouez, a French biochemists, through her health articles in Doctissimo revealed that vitamin is the most fragile micronutrient. In general, all vitamins are very sensitive to heat; especially vitamin C, B1 and B9. Some even directly oxidize when in contact with oxygen in the air such as vitamin C and E. In addition, all types of vitamins B and vitamins C soluble in water.

This means that most of the vitamins are going out into the cooking water. Therefore it is better to consume fruit naturally. The amount of water added to the food materials through boiled or steamed, it affects the amount of sugar that is released in the blood. This is expressed by Rodney Bilton, professor emeritus of biochemistry from the John Moores University, Liverpool, UK.

Rather than being cut thin and fried, it would be better to boil potatoes then crushed; it will release 25% more sugar. Bilton explained, quoting from the Lancet, an international medical journal, if the starch-containing foods when heated, given water, and refined, the kind of food more easily digested. In effect, the higher the sugar that is quickly inserted into the blood.

The same goes for fruit. For example, apple puree and apple juice must contain more sugar than a fresh apple that eaten directly. When cooking, some people cook more often with frying method that uses oil. In fact, the heat can break down the chemical structure of oil, then make it produces lipid peroxidation.

When ingested lipid peroxidase, there will be reaction with proteins and DNA. The long-term impact is increasing the risk of cancer and heart disease. To avoid the risk, it is recommended to use oils with unsaturated fat such as canola oil or sunflower oil. Canola oil good for frying, while sunflower oil for sauteing.

Avoid deep fried at high temperature; the molecular bonds in the oil material will be damaged. Unsaturated fats are actually good for health, even become dysfunctional. Especially for olive oil, it is advised for salad dressings since olive oil including unsaturated fatty oils with the most easily biodegradable; even though in low cooking temperature. In fact, it is not dangerous for your health, but the olive oil becomes useless. Essentially, olive oil can improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels to heart.
So, be wise when using it.
