Important Travel Information for Those Taking Family Holidays In Thailand

>> Sep 29, 2015

If you are thinking about booking a family holiday in Thailand, there is some important travel information that you need to be aware of (particularly if you’ve never been to the country before). In this article, we have outlined some of this information to help you plan your holiday accordingly. Even so, we recommend speaking with your travel agent to ensure you haven’t missed anything.
The country’s culture has been developed over thousands of years and is strongly influenced by the principles of ancestor worship and Buddhism. You will find that Thailand’s music and dance is a fusion of early customs, religion and modern society – they’re truly a wonder to behold. As religion is important to the people, it is important to be respectful.

The currency of Thailand is the baht, which is divided into 100 satang. A baht is worth a little over 3 cents Australian; a typical meal will cost you around 150 baht (or about 5 cents Australian). Coins range from 1 satang to 10 baht and notes range from 20 baht to 1000 baht. It is generally recommend that you exchange before you arrive.

Keep in mind that it is considered rude to wear revealing clothing, to show anger or impatience, to blow your nose or lick your fingers whilst eating, to point (particularly with your feet), and to touch a Thai person (particular on the head). The customary greeting is to bow the head whilst placing your hands together and raising them.

Whilst Thai is the official language, there are different local dialects and several other languages also spoken (such as Chinese, Malay, Lao and English). English is taught in schools, but fluent speakers will be few and far between. Fortunately, the people are very friendly and willing to help with translations whenever possible.

The most popular way to get around the country is by taxi – metered taxis are generally cheaper than those offering a set rate. The most iconic way to get around, however, is by tuk tuk. Note that they charge higher rates and will often detour to particular shops in order to earn commission (you can request the driver take you directly to your destination).

Travellers with a current Australian passport that is valid for at least 6 months can take family holidays in Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa. Australian visitors entering from a neighbouring country can stay for up to 15 days without a visa. If you want to stay longer, intend to work or are travelling for reasons other than tourism, you need a visa.

We hope that the travel information provided here has reassured you that your family holiday in Thailand will go off without a hitch. If there is anything that you are still unsure about, ensure that you speak to your travel agent, to someone who has previously holidayed in Thailand or do some online research – it is important that you are comfortable with your decision.

A Silver Reunion

>> Sep 28, 2015

The 27th college year –my grade- Silver Reunion of of Bogor Agricultural University that held last Saturday at the Bogor Botanical Gardens made my weekend enjoyable and impressive, though I experienced a loss later that afternoon.

It was a big event of the whole faculties that attended by more or less 500 people. I didn’t recognize many of them anymore, hahahaha, so  I preferred to gather with familiar faces –friends of the same study program class.

The event was started early in the morning.  Fortunately, our home is nearby Bogor Botanical Gardens, it only takes five minutes to reach the place.  Five minutes to 6 am I was at the field to make a registration and get my goodie bag.  I like the t-shirt; cool color and design :)

Opened by the vice of Bogor city mayor who also an alumni, the reunion started with a morning walk together following the path from Bogor Botanical Gardens-front campus- Bogor underpass-and back to Bogor Botanical Gardens again.  Lots of fun games were held to make stronger the bond between graduates again.

It’s a pity I can’t share various pics here since I lost my pocket camera that afternoon.  I was sure that I kept the camera inside my right pocket. I wasn't aware when and where it fell -it made me hard to trace it.  Oh well, it was my unlucky day but the whole day still nice to memorize.

5 Reasons to Teach Children about Credit

>> Sep 26, 2015

Many adults look back on their lives and regret not knowing more about credit when they were younger. Credit can influence many aspects of life as you get older. Teaching children about this aspect can help them develop a sense of what needs to be done in order to maintain a good score. Educational facilities such as a boot camp for teenagers can help them learn how to keep and maintain good credit. However, it may be your influence that may play the biggest role.

Buying a Car

One of the most often uses of good credit is buying a car. A credit score can influence just how much money a lender is willing to finance. If the score is terrible, your child could be limited to buying a used car out of the want ads in cash.

Buying a Home

Houses are another one of the most common uses for credit. A house can be an incredible long-term investment. However, a bad credit rating could be problematic when trying to buy the perfect home. Children need to understand the mistakes that are made now can affect their lives years down the road.

Many employers require a background check for credit histories. This is believed to give the business owner an idea of whether or not a person is likely to steal from the company or make poor judgments. While your children may not be thinking of a career today, bad credit can come back to haunt them later.

Credit Cards

A properly managed credit card can open a world of possibilities in the future. Unfortunately, bad credit can stop these possibilities by preventing acceptance to a card holding company. Valuable in an emergency, credit cards can do a great deal of good in the right hands.

Starting a business can be an excellent way to support yourself and the family. A poor credit rating can reduce the amounts lenders are willing to give. In many situations, bad credit can lead to a denial of funds. Instead of building on his or her dreams, your child wouldn't be able to get the cash to start his or her own company.

There are many parts of life that you need to teach your child before he or she moves out on their own. There are places where children can learn about credit and a wide range of other skills, such as at the Wood Creek Academy. Helping children grow and develop includes everything from setting a good example to ensuring a good education.
