Best Summer Blockbusters Planned for 2013

>> Apr 12, 2013

It's Christmastime for the movie industry, and Hollywood's favorite holiday season occurs nowhere near December but across the summer. Summer blockbusters produce some of the best and most profitable movies. According to www.cable.tv, summer flicks like "The Avengers" and "The Dark Knight Rises" were some of the biggest hits of 2012. There are some family-oriented flicks and adult-appropriate films. Check movie review sites before you take your kids out for a family-movie night.

'Iron Man 3' (May 3)

Tony Stark's adventures in the iron suit are about to spiral downward as he faces off against Mandarin (played by Academy-Award winner Ben Kingsley), the newest villain in this "Iron Man" saga. The previous two films in the trilogy carried a sort of charm and light-heartedness as Tony Stark fought terrorism by day and wooed women by night. But this third chapter puts Tony and his beloved Pepper Pots in serious danger, forcing Stark to assemble an army of various Iron Man suits to fight Mandarin and his henchmen of the Ten Rings.

'Star Trek: Into Darkness' (May 15)

Director J.J. Abrams complete recreation of "Star Trek" was not only a version that held true to long-time fans, but also a fresh overhaul that captivated younger audiences. "This isn't your father's Star Trek," is what critics said in anticipation of the 2009 science fiction thriller and the movie delivered. Abrams is back to give us the anticipated sequel "Into Darkness." Like "Iron Man 3," this follow-up tests the will of Captain Jim Kirk and his crew aboard the USS Enterprise.

'After Earth' (June 7)

It could be director M. Night Shyamalan's last chance at a legacy after botching movies like "The Happening" and "The Last Airbender." The futuristic film, starring father-son acting duo Will and Jaden Smith, shows a father and son who crash-land on Earth more than 1,000 years after the human race left it for a new planet. Since then, Mother Nature evolved into a race of wildlife that is programmed to destroy the very species that almost destroyed the planet: humans. If Shyamalan can make a movie as enticing as its synopsis, he may find himself back on top of the movie-making pedestal.

'Man of Steel' (June 14)

Perhaps the most iconic of all American superheroes, Superman, is back in 2013. Directed by Zack Snyder ("300," "Watchmen"), "Man of Steel" dials back to the early days of Clark Kent growing up on his farm in Smallville and his transition to Superman. Like Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins," Zack Snyder wants to give the movie a grittier and more grounded origin. After a disappointing "Superman Returns" in 2006, fans of the DC Comics superhero anxiously await the film that could put the man from Krypton back to glory.

World War Z' (June 21)

With the popular hit TV series "The Walking Dead" wrapped up for the season, America is hungry for more zombies. "World War Z" is based on the novel by Max Brooks and stars Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane, a United Nations employee charged with finding the origin of a worldwide zombie outbreak and saving humanity from extinction, no small feat for anyone. This movie's plethora of speedy zombie hoards and big-budget explosions is sure to deliver as a textbook summer zombie epic.

Author Bio : David Robbins. David loves movies. All movies. Even the bad ones.
