Internet Marketing Tips: Avoid Becoming Spam

>> Jan 10, 2013

Some basic tips to avoid your email landing in the recipients spam folder.
Email marketing is one of the most effective forms of internet marketing. It is however prolific and many companies sending 'spam' email have caused email hosting companies such as Google to choose what is worth reading and what's not by using mail filters. There are a number of measures you can take however to avoid your all important email being sent to the Spam box and instead hopefully being read and enjoyed.

It is thought that a huge amount of marketing emails end up in people's spam folders, never to be read at all. This is a massive shame for companies who have spent time and money getting the emails just right as well as time collating the email addresses of recipients. However it's a necessary action to help people avoid huge amounts of unsolicited 'junk' landing in their inbox. Sometimes it's worth enlisting the help of an online marketing agency who can advise you on how to create great emails.

Layout and Font
The way the email looks can have a great effect on whether it ends up as spam. They may end up as spam if the subject line is in capitals or a very large font is used in the email. Excessive use of colours, images and flash can also cause emails to end up in spam. This is a shame for marketers who like to create great looking emails- but emails can still look good by looking clean and tidy. You can often tell the difference between an email which has been created with the help of an online marketing agency who already know the rules of email marketing. If you are not sure you have the skills to get it right this could be an avenue worth taking.

Wording
Emails tend to end up in spam because there is too much 'spam' wording such as 'free' or 'no obligation'. Proofread your email a number of times to ensure there are no spelling errors as this is another way the email filters decide an email is Spam. Avoid exclamation marks too as this is a fast route into the spam file.

Keep a Clean Subscriber List
Try to make sure your emails are going to those who want to read it. Have a clear opt out option for those who are not interested as this will keep the list 'clean' and stop you being flagged as spam by those who don't want the emails. Also try to add useful content into your emails, the hard sell alone won't always be enough but if you can add something more such as news stories or style tips, customers will actually look forward to receiving your mail and won't flag it. However don't include a massive amount of content as this again may be considered Spam, it's all about balance.

These are just some of the ways you can try to prevent your email ending up as spam. Further tips include staying on top of the law regarding email marketing and also reviewing the reasons why people have unsubscribed to your mail. Email marketing can be very successful and many companies now depend on it entirely but it's not always easy to end up in the right inbox.

Get to the Sales Fast in a Tricked Out Hatchback

What can you do to get to the front of the sales queues? This article takes a lighthearted look at some modifications to the family hatchback to get you to the chequered flag at the checkout. Hold onto your handbags and wallets.

Bringing the track to the shopping centre car park

When you spend as much time as I do speeding around racing tracks, the school run and weekly shop can seem a bit dull. Friends often ask me if I'm tempted to put the foot down or use some of the tricks I've learned on the circuit. The short answer is no, of course, I like driving too much to risk losing my license and my insurance is high enough already, thank you very much. So I'm a pretty law-abiding driver on the public road but I confess that sometimes, just sometimes, as I stew in another snarl up, I let myself imagine what it would be like to let my inner race driver free. Then I look around my little shopping trolley hatchback and think about how I could tweak it a little to help me beat all those other drivers to the best bargains in the sales.

Modifying my little hatchback

OK, it's only a fantasy, so I'm not going to bother too much about the cost or insurance implications. The first thing that's going to have to go is my frugal little diesel engine. Under the bonnet I want something like the engine from a Mitsubishi Evo or Subaru Impreza. Next, I'm going to lower the body, add a good body kit with skirts, air intakes and spoilers to make it look mean and stick to the road like glue. Then I'll add a full set of racing tyres to add even more road holding capability and quicken the pace a little further. I'm just about set, but I'll add a performance exhaust and proper rally driver's seat and belts to make sure I don't get thrown out on the car park corners. Now, what's going to go?

Lightening the load

I intend to pillage the shops and burn my plastic (it is a fantasy after all), so I'll need a lot of space and there's stuff in here I don't need. First the back seat can go. I don't want my little darlings seeing mummy drive like this. A quick look over at the front passenger seat and I decide that hubby can stay at home and babysit. This is a solo mission. In the boot, the spare wheel takes up too much space so I'll ditch that too. Finally I'm off to the shops and grinning at the squeal of my racing tyres as I weave in and out of the queue and bag that last parking space opposite the entrance of my favourite fashion store.

Back in the real world?

OK, I'm still sitting in the queue, there are no parking spaces and while I crawl along all the bargains are disappearing into someone else's bags. A change of strategy is in order. From now on I take the bus and let someone else worry about the driving. Do buses have turbochargers and rally seats?

How to Remove and Dispose off Asbestos

Asbestos used to be a much sought after mineral because of its properties of insulation, resistance to fire and strength adding ability. However, Asbestos is really harmful to the environment and hence, in 1977, the government banned it. But many buildings that were built before that time still continue to have Asbestos. This has a potential of causing severe environmental hazards if it gets released into the environment.

/image:perthnow.com.au/
There are certain things that you must know about this natural fiber mineral and they are as follows –

1.    Kinds Of Asbestos – There are two kinds of Asbestos –
  • Non Friable Asbestos – Floor tiles, shingles and asbestos cement are some examples of non-friable asbestos. This is comparatively safer as it is too strong to be crushed by hand. Hence, the chances of it releasing into the environment are much less. This is why they fall under low risk items. That being said, this means that you should be doubly careful of not crushing items made from asbestos.
  • Friable Asbestos – Insulating materials use friable asbestos and before the 1977 ban, paints, patching compounds and textures also used this. This asbestos can be crushed into a fine powder and is hazardous in nature.
2.  Removal Of Asbestos – This process can only be performed by trained workers and a lot of precaution needs to be taken before they start. Workers wear protective gear so that asbestos doesn’t enter their body. All the items of furniture are covered with a cloth or other protective fabric so that asbestos doesn’t settle on them during the process. Another thing to do is to wet the entire area surrounding it so that no debris are left in the air.

You can also use High Efficiency Particulate Air vacuum cleaners to clean the area of asbestos debris after the process. All the material that the workers wear should be disposable after the removal process. Also, make sure that you conduct necessary air safety tests before people are allowed back in the area.

3.  Disposal Of Asbestos –Unlike other minerals that you can easily dispose off in a simple bin hire, asbestos requires much more work. There are pretty stringent laws set by the government regarding the disposal of Asbestos and they must be followed carefully. The debris is packed securely in an air tight container by trained workers and later disposed into the nearest disposal facility that must be licensed.

There are alternatives to disposal as well, in case you find the removal a bit too hard on the pocket. Instead of eliminating the asbestos tile, get it covered to prevent the harmful exposure. EPA has listed many such tricks that you could follow.

Since asbestos is so dangerous to the environment, there are federal laws in place to govern asbestos handling, removal and disposal. A lot of paperwork and pre removal checks are performed to ensure safety. If you are a homeowner, the laws are much less strict for you but that doesn’t mean that you are exempt from them.
