Current Bogor Pedestrian Underpass

>> Sep 8, 2014

Reopened again at 14th July 2014, the underpass for pedestrian that connects the IPB Baranangsiang College and the Bogor Botanical Gardens is now clean, bright, and not scary anymore. With the support of many institutions, associations, residents, the new city major can function this public facility again.

In fact, this underpass was built about nine years ago, but the previous local government didn’t perform required protection and maintenance. This facility became very dirty, smelly, scary, and dark; moreover some ‘bad’ people misused it. Then it was closed for several years until last July this year.

Not only for easing pedestrian to cross busy Pajajaran Street and reducing traffic jam, this new underpass is also created to become a media for local artists to display their artworks. So it would be a photo or painting gallery.

Yesterday Sunday was my first time to walk on this underpass. On both side of walls attached a number of repro heroic photos and the panting of local artists. For security reason, CCTV cameras and officers are located there.

It’s a pity I found no blue touch on this underpass but let me link this post to Blue Monday as I captured a walking girl in blue shirt :)

Continued Story of Two Moms

>> Sep 6, 2014

We have two moms here, Juno and Lili. Juno has two babies while Lili has only one.

The vet said that Lili is fine. There’s only one baby in her womb. Lili still has flabby tummy until now; she still looks like pregnant yet the vet said it’s because she has delivered several times.

Last week Juno seemed neglecting her babies and let Lili breastfeed them. It turned out that Juno was sick. She slept all day and didn’t want to eat at all. Juno was hospitalized at the vet place for several days (last Monday-Wednesday).

Now Juno is healthy and she wants to care her babies again. We did nothing as we wanted to know how the mom Juno and Lili solved their situation. They started it awkwardly but two moms have ‘decided’ to care for their three babies together.

Captured yesterday morning
Captured yesterday afternoon.                                                                   Switching babies! Juno hug Lili's baby. Juno's baby slept on Lili's tummy.                                The third baby slept on both moms' legs. So sweet!
What a sweet thing to see. Both moms and three babies are together in the same box. The kittens are close to both moms. Once in a while, one mom rests outside and the other mom still in the box with the babies.

I love happy ending! Hope both moms keep getting along each other. You know women, they are unpredictable :)

The First 28 Days after Conception

>> Sep 4, 2014

At the time of fertilization occurs in one’s body, a new life appears complete with its DNA genetic code in your womb. Eighteen days later, the baby's heart begins to beat. Precisely, within one month after conception, the fetus will develop and grow rapidly 10,000 times larger than the current size of the first fetus is formed, without you can feel the growth in your womb.

The formation of the baby's brain starts in early pregnancy until 3-4 weeks of pregnancy, and unfortunately the risk of the defects of baby’s brain and spinal cord may happen before you even realize your pregnancy, so you miss the crucial moment where you should be able to play a role in determining your baby's life in the future. Sure you don’t want your baby birth in defect condition, right?

For that, you should start taking folic acid, as early as possible. A study has been developed over the last 12 years indicated that folic acid may lower the risk of defects of the brain and spinal cord, if taken before pregnancy and during the most important pregnancy period when fetal organs are formed, the first 28 days after conception.

Why is folic acid?
Folic acid is one of the types of B vitamins and essential nutrients. It's important for women to consume folic acid before and during the first trimester of pregnancy. Research conducted in China showed that taking folic acid before pregnancy may lower the risk of having a baby with defects of the brain and spinal cord up to 80%.

Two types of birth defects that are the most dangerous and the most common are:
Anencephaly is a condition when the baby’s cranium is not perfectly formed and the damaged brain or even is not fully formed. With this condition, the baby is usually born in a state of lifeless or died shortly after birth.

Spina bifida is a not-closed tube spinal cord, causing the dysfunction of the leg and the organs in the lower abdomen, also can cause mental disabilities.

Folic acid requirement for pregnant women is 600 mcg per day. In addition to getting folic acid from food, you can also get it from supplements and dairy products containing folic acid for pregnancy. Food sources that contain folic acid include beans, citrus fruits, bananas, spinach, asparagus, avocado, broccoli, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, carrots, corn, eggs, cauliflower, okra, pumpkin, cereal, pasta, potatoes.

So from now on, remember that you only have 28 days from the moment of conception to determine how your baby will grow.
