Tightening Your Skin by Going in for Laser Appointments

>> Sep 16, 2016

Getting older is a natural thing but I think no one wants to have early wrinkles on their face. That’s why many skin treatments provided in beauty clinics to handle high demands of younger looked skin. Among those different offered treatments, treating skin with lasers is a fairly common process these days. Yep, you can find clinics that offer laser procedures everywhere. But what you may not realize is exactly what those treatments do and how they work. For example, there are lasers that get rid of unwanted hair and others that can treat scars, but the vast majority are primarily used to reduce wrinkles and tighten the skin.

Laser Treatment as an Alternative to Face Lifts
Have you already known about laser treatment? Well, you probably think of laser skin tightening as a good alternative to having a face lift, and it can be. However, it all depends on your situation. If you have mild to moderate wrinkles and sags, laser treatments might work wonders for you. But if your skin has already gone beyond that point, as far as severity of wrinkles, then a face lift may be faster and more economical for you.

Having Other Laser Skin Tightening Treatments
It's also important for you to remember that your face and neck are not the only places where the skin can be tightened by lasers. Actually, skin tightening laser machines can be used on almost any part of the body, but aside from the face, one of the most popular areas is the stomach.

How the Lasers Work for Skin Tightening
Lasers that are designed to tighten the skin work in two very specific ways, both of which have to do with a protein called collagen. Collagen is a protein that your body produces throughout your life and uses to keep your skin cells tight together and give your skin its elasticity. As you get older, those collagen levels will naturally drop, and it will be a bit like a rubber band losing its elasticity. But unlike a rubber band, your skin can be repaired. That is really good news!

In order to repair your skin, lasers used for skin tightening heat the skin up a very specific amount. That heat causes the collagen that is still in your cells to kind of contract and squeeze together more. In turn, that makes your skin look tighter and smoother.

The other way that the laser treatments can help you is by getting your body to produce extra collagen. That same heating action can trick your body into thinking that your skin cells are under attack. That means that your body will try to fight the “invasion” by making more collagen to help hold your skin cells together. So, a laser treatment can actually be doubly good for your skin.

Following Post-Treatment Skincare Recommendations from Your Clinic
If you do decide to have laser skin tightening treatment, one thing that is vitally important is for you to follow any post-treatment instructions that your skincare clinic gives you. That could involve things like staying out of the sun for a couple weeks, using a specific type of moisturizer daily, and sometimes applying an antibiotic cream to your skin for a week or two after the procedure. Following every given instruction means reducing possible risks.

Making Your Final Laser Skin Tightening Decision
Before you make your final decision about whether or not to use lasers to tighten your skin, write down a list of everything involved first. This list will support you to make an informed decision:
-How much time will it take?
-How much will it cost?
-How many treatments does the clinic think you will need?
-What are the other complications or considerations in your particular case, such as other underlying skin conditions?
Adequate preparation will give you bigger chance to get satisfying end result. Thus, you shouldn't make a final decision to have the procedure or not until you go over your entire list of concerns with your local clinic.
