How to Know That Your Parents Need a Caregiver’s Services

>> Feb 5, 2018

Aging parents have a strong desire to live their lives not dependent on someone else (especially strangers). In fact, most seniors prefer staying in their own homes and want to be independent even when age doesn’t allow them. Believe it or not, the last thing your parents would want is for you to feel like they are a burden and for this reason, most of them end up hiding their need for a caregiver.

The truth is; every elderly person needs someone to care for them because there comes a time when they become incapable of taking care of themselves. That said, this post is meant to give you the telltale signs that your parents, relatives or friends need assistance. Do not wait until something tragic happens for you to know that it’s time you found a good care home for your loved ones.

So, here are some irrefutable indicators that your seniors may need to be in a care home;

  • Unexplained injuries – This one goes without saying! Unexplained injuries are the first indicator that your seniors need extra attention.
  •  Grimy and unkempt house - It is normal for people to clean up after themselves and your parents are not an exception in their own home. However, if you come to visit and notice that the house looks grimy unlike old times, it may be because they are not able to tidy up as much as they used to. If the kitchen sink is full of dirty utensils, or there is too much clutter and grime on the floors, it is important that you take that seriously. Clearly, age is catching up with them and they sure need some form of assistance.
  •  Poor personal hygiene – Most old people tend to ignore their personal hygiene. In fact, don’t be surprised when you notice that your parents have skipped taking a bath several times. Fact is, due to their mobility and vision issues, they may have a fear of bathroom falls. This is a clear indication that its time you took them to a good care home where they will have a caregiver attend to them 24/7.
  • Loads of unpaid bills – Paying bills is one of the things that your parents have been doing since. But when you realize that they are losing track of what is paid and what is not, then that should be a telltale sign that their memory is declining. Dementia is a common condition for people in their old age which causes a lot of forgetfulness. If that is the case, it is best that you seek assistance as early as possible.
  • Irregular medication plans – Even if your parents don’t show any of the signs mentioned above, you have to be extra careful with this one. And since old age is normally accompanied by several complications and health issues, chances are that your parents or loved ones are under some sort of medication. Take a look at their medication box to see if they might have skipped some. If you find that they have skipped medication several times, it is time you found them the right care.

Choose Solar Energy: 5 Reasons Why

pixabay.com/en/energy-solar-solar-energy-3125125
Solar energy is becoming quite popular these days. However, a great majority of people know that there are a lot of benefits associated with solar energy but only a few of them understand why most residential and commercial property owners are switching to solar energy. This post therefore gives a list of the benefits of solar energy and 5 reasons why you too should consider investing in solar energy;
  • Solar energy is economical – As we all know, the energy from the sun is absolutely free! And for this reason, solar energy saves you money on your electricity bills. According to Green Business Watch, money saving begins as soon as you have a solar panel installed in your home or place of work and it will be so for a very long period of time. At the end of the day, you can say goodbye to monthly electricity bills or reduced bills if at all you are buying the solar energy from someone else.

  •  Solar energy is reliable and can work independently – Other than reducing your electricity bills, solar energy will be sufficient for your entire home or commercial space. All you have to do is install quality solar panels and let nature take its course. Unlike other forms of energy, where you must rely on a centralized source, solar energy is absolutely free which makes your energy consumption constant and efficient.
  • Solar energy is clean –Unlike coal, gas and oil, solar energy is environmentally friendly and renewable. Most forms of energy release carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, mercury and nitrogen oxide into the air which at the end of the day pollutes our environment. Fortunately, solar energy does not release anything harmful to the air. So, you can rest assured that you will be helping protect the environment by using solar energy.
  • Solar energy is not demanding when it comes to maintenance –The solar energy systems need minimal to no maintenance. Since there are no moving parts, the system is unlikely to break down forcing you to do some repairs. In fact, once installed, you will have nothing to worry about for a very long time.
  • Moreover, since you will be relying on energy from the sun directly, you don’t have to worry about fueling your system. This basically means that by installing a solar energy system in your home or place of work, you can be sure that there will be no recurring costs popping up at all.
  • Lastly, solar energy is perfect for just about everybody –There is a lot to chose from when it comes to solar energy systems. The solar panels may vary in pricing but it is a sure thing that once purchased, it is a good return on investment. Whether for commercial spaces or residential property, solar energy is the best. All you need to do is invest in a solar panel system that is large enough for your needs and you are good to go.
Well, there you have it! It is time to switch to solar; a clean, renewable and money saving source of energy.

5 tips to improve your family's health

Family means everything to most of us, and discovering ways to keep each other safe and happy is always a fantastic idea. As a father, you'd do anything possible to ensure your family's safety and overall well-being. Also, mothers are never left out, as they're mostly eager to improve the well-being of the children and her home in general.

While there are numerous ways to support and safe guard your family, the most important step begins with their health. When a family is at its best—both physically and mentally—they are better equipped to handle whatever is thrown their way; be it illness and disease, or a sudden unfortunate circumstance, or maybe even one of the happiest moments of their lives. In essence, "a family who puts their health first, extends their lifespan and quality of life."

Here are five tips on how you and your family can improve health wise.

1.  Make the home a healthy environment

Your home is the first place your children, most especially; encounter most of their life experiences and lessons.

Lead by example and rid yourself of any abusive habits like drinking, doing drugs, physical, and emotional assault in your relationship; and this would improve the overall well being of your family.

"In studies of community samples, children of substance abusing parents are more than twice as likely to have an alcohol and/or drug use disorder themselves by young adulthood as compared to their peers," says a report by Jessica M. Solis[1].

2.  Use more organic and natural products

These days, harmful chemicals and toxins exist in just about everything you and your family use. From the clothes you wear, to the foods you eat, beverages you drink and even the bed you sleep in.

"As we look at protecting children's health, we need to look not just at nutrition, diet, and physical activity, but also exposure to chemicals," says Jason Rano, director of government affairs at the environmental Working Group.

Utilizing more organic and natural products would reduce the risk of your family getting exposed to harmful chemicals that can damage their health, or even worse, threaten their lives.

Organic products are basically products that are made with at least 95% authentic materials and ingredients—products made out of cannabidiol are organic and can be purchased at a CBD gummies retailer[2].

3.  Get a pet

"Studies have shown that Alzheimer's patients have fewer anxious outbursts if there is an animal in the home," says Lynette Hart, PhD, associate professor at the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine[2].

"Their caregivers also feel less burdened when there is a pet, particularly if it is a cat, which generally requires less care than a dog," says Hart.

Families who own pets, most especially dogs, tend to be more active and aware. Dogs are fantastic companions who help in reducing stress, improve happiness amongst other things. In a bid to keep the dog healthy and sharp, family members have to wake up early and take the dog for walks, or runs, and in turn are exercising.

It’s also important to make sure that your pet is living a happy and healthy life, as they technically a part of your family as well.

4.  Eat meals together

Just like the popular saying "a family who eats together, stays together", quality time spent with your family is extremely important to their physical and emotional well-being—and one of the most common avenue to do that is during meal times.

Having dinner together can greatly improve self-esteem, lower their risk of depression, promote healthier relationships, reduce risks of obesity, build a higher sense of resilience, and reduce the risk of harmful behaviours such as drug abuse or teenage pregnancy.

"In many cases, kids who eat dinner on a regular basis with their family also have higher self-esteem and above average grade point averages. Having regular conversations around the dinner table can help boost vocabulary and public speaking skills," said Jennifer Chung, parenting expert and co-founder of Kinsights: a parenting community and online health record.

5.  Schedule regular family medical checkups

Regular health exams and tests are necessary to discover problems before they even begin. This would greatly improve the health of every family member, and ensure that everyone is in topnotch condition.

Early medical examination can help to find problems early, when the chances for treatment and cure are higher. By scheduling regular checkups for the family—at a reputable hospital—for screenings and treatments, you are taking important steps that'll help your chances and that of your family, for living a longer, healthier life.

Besides, the age of your family members, health and family history, lifestyle choices, and other important factors, determine what and how often your family require healthcare.

Hotel Safety Tips for Solo Travelers

>> Feb 2, 2018

Nowadays, more and more people are choosing to travel on their own, so whether you’re in a business trip or you just want to unwind in another place in solitude, you should know that staying in a hotel at Makati by yourself necessitates you to be extra careful.

You want to be safe at all times. And you want to get the best out of your stay in another place.

Here are some hotel safety tips that solo travelers must constantly keep in mind.

Be mindful of your belongings
This should be obvious. This shouldn’t just start the moment you step inside the hotel, but at the very beginning of your journey.

Once you’re already in the lobby, make sure that you always stay with your luggage. This area is often bustling and crammed with people, and sneaky thieves might use this as an opportunity to do their business.

Be wary of strangers
It’s high time that you practice again your parents’ perpetual warning to you when you were a kid. “Don’t talk to strangers”—remember?

Most of the people you’ll meet, of course, have good intentions. And yes, it’s a marvelous idea to try to get to know the locals. But still, there are some people who have not-so-good intentions. These people will exploit your status as a foreigner wandering in an equally foreign place.

It’s essential that you always remain cautious when mingling with other people.

Avoid rooms on the ground floor
It’s recommended that you steer clear of rooms in the ground floor, since these rooms are much easier to break into.

If you can, opt for rooms between the third and sixth floors. These rooms are high enough to elude break-ins. But they’re also low enough that it will be easy for you to get out of the hotel in case of emergencies (such as fire or earthquake).

Check the locks
Nothing wrong with being extra cautious, right?
The moment you enter your room, check the locks—that is, ensure that they’re all in good condition.

Ask for business cards
Ask for at least two business cards. They should have the hotel’s name, address, and contact number.

Keep one with you at all times. In case you get lost, you can just show the card to your taxi driver.

Place the other business card near the phone in your room. Should an emergency arise and you need to call someone for help, you can easily contact the hotel staff.

Have a flashlight with you
Place your flashlight in your bedside table, or somewhere within easy reach. This way, when the electricity suddenly goes out (and the hotel, sadly, has no backup generator), or when there’s an emergency, you’ll have something that can help you navigate the building, even in darkness.

Key Takeaway
More and more people are traveling solo nowadays. Whatever the reason is, when you stay in a hotel in Makati or any other lodging, there are certain precautions that you need to keep in mind. This ensures that you’re always safe, and that you’ll get the best out of your stay in another place.
