What to Look for in a Ski Holiday Package

>> Jan 9, 2014

So you have decided to go on a ski holiday. If you know where you want to go, half the job is done because choosing a ski vacation is not easy. If you want to travel abroad, there are some very good skiing destinations in Europe, Canada, and Japan. There are some wonderful ski resorts in the US also.

You also have to go at the right time because the ski season is not the same every where. For example, the ski season in Canada and the US is between November and April, while in New Zealand, it is between June and October. While choosing a location, cheap is not always best either. The cheaper the ski vacation package, the higher the chance that you will miss out on some important ski essentials and facilities.

The rate you are quoted is typically for the entire holiday and not per day. These are normally for two persons (twin room). Do not forget the more-is-better rule. If you are going to go alone, be ready to pay more for lodging, than if you would have, if you had gone with your partner or group of friends. Here are a few things that you should look for in a ski holiday package.

Hotel facilities

There will usually be a bar where you keep a tab, a lounge area where you can watch satellite TV with other guests. There might also be a sun terrace, a restaurant, a money exchange facility, and ski lockers. See if the hotel provides skis on rent. Some will also include the services of a ski instructor. Other features you can look for are sauna, beauty and massage treatments, and childcare.

Accommodation

You will most likely be given a twin room (unless you make a special request for some other kind of accommodation). Your room will have a balcony or a terrace and a bathroom with a shower. Sometimes, for some extra payment, you can opt for a room with a better outside view (piste view) or even bunk beds, if you are traveling with friends.

Outbound and inbound flights

Your ski holiday package may include outbound and inbound flights. If you want a particular seat, you may have to pay extra. The package may include meals (some do not, so check with the ski holiday operator). The ski holiday package may include transport between the airport and the resort.

Things to look out for

There are some facilities that may or may not be included in your ski holiday package, but you may expect. In most cases, while you stay at a lodge or hotel, breakfast is complementary. You may have to pay for lunch and dinner (if you eat at the hotel) in which case, it will be added to your tab. Some hotels offer complementary lunch and dinner, but you will have to check with the hotel. The price you have been quoted for the ski holiday package usually does not include the service charges. The hotel service charges will usually be included. Note that if you rent a taxi or a car to do some sightseeing, you will have to pay for it yourself.

What You Can Learn from Men about Cleaning

I always tough that one day, the gender stereotypes that we've all come to know and love, would simply die-out and disappear without a trace. I am glad to see that my premonition is coming into fruition, and that we live in an age, where women are no longer considered “exclusive masters of the household chores”. As a man, I am proud to share any experience I have with the people who would benefit from it the most. I cannot say that we men are that proficient in cleaning, but at least we can bring in another perspective into the whole gender monopoly game.

Men Clean Fast

The last thing any man wants is to waste time. When it comes to making all the right moves, we always seem inpatient and in a hurry. But that can be a good thing, especially when it comes to cleaning. The faster we are done with it, the better. Unless the man is very lazy, you can bet that he would be finished before you know it. This is just how we are.

Men Clean Right

It is not just a matter of getting the job done fast. We can also clean very good in terms of quality. Just like when fixing our cars, everything must fall into its right place. We make a detailed plan before we start – just so we don;t have to worry about anything else while we are cleaning. But because we are not as stubborn as women (he he), we might omit something from the equation – that is why we make sure to double-check everything before declaring “success”.

Men Don’t Get Distracted

One thing I am personally proud of, is that I always get the job done, no matter how difficult a situation is. And don't think that I don't have things to do, on the contrary! But when I am busy with something, I will pour all my heart and soul into completing the project, no complains, no delays. But that is only for men who know what they are doing. Sadly, most men would quit very fast if they get stuck with something outside their expertise, or would they?

Men Know how to Improvise

Improvisation is one of our strong-suits. We can make everything out of anything; depending on how handy the person is of course. But generally speaking, it is not too difficult to handle a situation, as long as we understand the basic concept. If there isn't any soap left/handy, then we are just going to use white vinegar or baking soda – everything to get the job done.

Men will take it as a challenge

Most women clean as if by habit. We men on the other hand like to take everything, like it is a direct challenge against our manhood (an emotion left from our caveman days I suppose). Either way, it works just the way it worked 10 000 years ago – we see a problem that needs solving, we get excited, and until that problem is finished we cannot rest or even ask for help. It is a matter of pride after all.

Men know when they are beat

Not a lot cleaning situation have a happy ending. And even though men don't like to quit, we will if we see that the situation warrens it.

Monday Post

>> Jan 6, 2014

Happy Monday to everyone. Today is the first school days for my nephews. I’m at home again since Friday afternoon. How’s your first weekend in this new year? My weekend was a lazy one.

A smile of a ticketing staff -in blue tshirt- at the main gate.
The fish market of the restaurant. It has blue touches.
The row of eating tables

For Blue Monday, I share a seaside restaurant –located at the Ancol Park, Jakarta- that we visited to have dinner in the last day in 2013. It’s my second visit; it seems that this restaurant is a favorite of my friend’s son. Besides crabs, we ordered several seafood dishes –from shrimps, squids, sea fish, mussels to oyster. We’re (four of us) so full and happily, the whole food and beverages took only about $35.

Waiting for fireworks and year changing

We left the Ancol Park after dinner. My friend preferred going home to avoid bad traffic jam. I saw many people staying around the park until New Year’s eve to see fireworks party.
