As technology develops and becomes more widely available, even kids are becoming more and more familiar with it and they are also becoming quite obsessed. In order to regulate their technology obsession and to find a fine golden middle line, it is very important for them to be taught about the dangers technology can hold, so that they can be familiar with the repercussions they could suffer in the long term. However, they should be taught about the good side of technological advancements as well, to be able to fully utilize it in their lives.

What did modern technology bring us?
Although it might seem like we are becoming slaves of technology, it must be first explored what the pros and cons of technology are, so that you as a parent can decide whether it will positively or negatively affect your kid. But, if you notice your children being obsessed, then it is perhaps time to re-evaluate and to start teaching obedience and self-control in order not to let technology take their lives over. In general, the more good technology gives us, the more addictive it will become and the harder it will be to get free of that dependence.

Talking it out with your kids
Before talking any drastic measures, it is important that you first sit down, and talk it out with your kids. The dangers behind technological advancements can be dangerous and it might lead to serious situations, but if they understand the difference and they know how to follow rules, it should be clear to them that there is no reason to worry. Nevertheless, they should understand that spending too much time cooped up behind the warm glow of a screen can be bad for their health, and that they should be limited to using it only when necessary.

Be careful with media
With so many gadgets at our disposal, it comes as no surprise that children have an easier access to media as well. You should be careful as there is a specific connection between media and children which you must understand in order to set a boundary and in order to set an example of what is good to follow up and what should be avoided. The bottom line is that kids need to be able to focus and with so much attention-grabbing media floating around, it is becoming extremely difficult for them, which you should try to regulate as much as possible.

Proper technical safety
Perhaps one of the biggest problems with technology in the house is whether it is safe or not. And in order to make sure that every piece of technology is safe and secure for use, you need to have a professional come and set it up. TV wall installation is something that should not be taken lightly, and if not secure enough, your curious children might end up hurt when they start fiddling around it too much. However, make sure that your kids understand just how many dangerous things are lurking in the shadows with all kinds of technical equipment.

Do not ban it
Your main goal is to limit how much electronics can be used in your home, so that your kids do not alienate their social and moral needs. Do not eliminate the use of technology completely, rather, channel their creativity into something more beneficial and enjoyable for them, so that they can see the use behind certain electrical gadgets and how it can be helpful. Instead of just aimlessly browsing through the Internet, make your kids understand just how much beauty they can discover and help create if they use it wisely.

Make the boundaries clear
Remember that kids are explorative in nature and that they will tend to go against the tide, so if you tell them that something is off-limits just because you said so, it will not last for very long until they try to do the complete opposite. Rather, you need to make boundaries clear and understandable, and most of all, respectful so that your kids do not feel cheated and that the boundaries are fair. But, it is important that you understand your children’s needs for newer technology.

Ways and Obligations of the State to Promote Child Rights

>> May 12, 2015

It seems like our today is swamped with so many contrasts and extremes that it gets hard to even rationalize what is the type of world we live in. From extremely rich celebrities, overspending on plastic surgeries, luxurious houses, cars, yachts, holidays… to the extremely poor adults and children living in such terrible conditions that even the most cold-hearted would cry.

The interesting thing though is that now more than ever people have started paying attention to those less fortunate than them, they started doing research on ways to help those who weren’t as blessed with good life as they were. Celebrities, regular people, wealthy people… all of them try to stay focused and joined in their attempt to make the lives of the poor at least a little bit easier.

This time around we are raising awareness concerning child rights and ending child poverty.

Staying concerned with the Rights of the Child is the responsibility of all members of society. Only when respected by everyone standards can be realized.

When all members of the community - parents and members of the family; professionals working in education, employees of all public and private institutions, the courts, services for children and at all levels of government administration realize and then react in correspondence with the expected standards and when each individual carries out his or her unique role things may change for the better.

Governments, families, children and members of a society all have a certain role.

Governments
Governments are obliged to recognize the full spectrum of human rights. Human rights should consider children in policy and legislative decisions.
A rather promising circumstance is that many States are beginning to listen to children's views seriously to understand their views on important issues. However, this is still a process that’s in its beginning stages and a lot more needs to be done.

Children
There is an old saying that states “Listen to the elderly and respect them”. And generally we wouldn’t have a problem with this statement if time hadn’t shown that not only can children be wiser than the elderly but they can also be more realistic and understanding about the ever-changing world around them.

This is why it is important to give children voice to express their opinions. This of course doesn’t mean that children’s views should be treated as absolute truths. Their point of view needs to be appreciated like anyone else’s and then put to trial with all the other opinions of others on certain matters.

Children should also be obliged to respect the rights of others.

Families
As defined by Convention on the Rights of the Child, “The family is the fundamental group of society and the natural environment for the growth and well-being of its members, particularly children.”

Families are obliged to provide care and guidance for their children and children are in return obliged to respect their parents. Unless the separation is necessary for the child's best interests, the States are also obliged to prevent children from being separated from their families.

As an integral part of a child’s emotional, psychological and physical development, the family is responsible to help the child grow up into a decent human being, respective of him/herself and others. Also, it is important for children to grow up in an environment where they are appreciated as intellectual beings and they are given space to develop that intelligence.

Members of society
The society functions well only when united. Members of the society should be ready to fulfill their human obligations – help those in need.
UNICEF has cooperated with organizations and governments and provided technical assistance to further implementation of the Convention.
Other United Nations agencies, like the World Health Organization (WHO); UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR); and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) actively stand for by far promote rights embodied in the Convention.

Many non-governmental organizations are also included in the project. They all work for better implementation of the Convention. The world is spread through promotional products and marketing items, meetings, stands, etc.

And while the first image of poverty that pops in our heads is usually connected to the population of the Third World, truth is poverty is an omnipresent condition of many, skulking behind almost every corner of the streets we daily pass through. This is why it is extremely important we all understand how important it is to help and save those whose lives are on the verge, stricken by poverty.

Things You Need to Know about Giving Water to Your Baby

>> May 9, 2015

Since water presents crucial and unavoidable substance for every living creature on our planet, it’s not even possible to think about any restrictions related to its consummation. Even though there can hardly be any drink that is safer than water for human organism, surprisingly, it may not be that harmless for newborns. If you have wondered is it smart to give your baby clear water to drink, what is the best time for that and can water produce any health consequences, your dilemmas are reasonable, since there is a lot of guidelines every parent should follow in order to ensure the safest water drinking for their baby. Pay attention to the following directions to learn all the important facts related to providing water to your baby:

Giving water to a newborn –safe or not?
Although it sounds unbelievable, providing infants with water carries possibility for very serious health complications. Breast feeding and baby formulas supply baby’s organism with sufficient level of nutritive components and liquids, so there’s no risk that your baby will experience dehydration or constipation. Paediatricians strongly recommend staying away from giving water to your baby at least until the moment it gradually switches to solid nutrition, since water can disturb the process of important nutrients’ adoption within baby’s digestive tract and can also cause the lack of appetite. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should panic if your baby laps up few drops of water before doctor approved it, but you just need to avoid giving larger water amounts during the first months of child’s life.

The exact time when baby can drink water
Generally looking, suggested age limit which you should follow to ensure safe water consummation for your baby is 6 months. Even when your child reaches this age, you must be careful with water quantity you provide.  From baby’s birth until 3 months of age, water shouldn’t be a part of child’s daily nutrition, since it can overfull its belly and occupy the place where beneficial milk should be. When your child enters 4th or 5th month, water becomes less harmful for it, but if you still breast feed it, there’s no need to include additional water supplies. In case baby is exposed to hot weather conditions which can cause sweating and it has been fed with milk formula, you can give small dose of water, but even then, you must consult paediatrician and conduct suggestions with great caution. As your baby turns 6 months, its digestive system starts to develop more and more, so you can occasionally give it medium feeding bottle of water to quench the thirst, but it’s still unnecessary to drink too often. The time when baby’s meals are frequently based on regular milk and food, what’s usually around its 1st year, is when unlimited amount of water becomes safe for its body.

Potential complications of early water consummation
The most common illness condition caused when too much water is given to young babies is water intoxication. This may be very dangerous, since lot of water leads to excessive excretion of electrolytes mostly through baby’s urine, resulting in serious brain damages, seizures or even comatose stage. Since water easily fills stomach, baby tends to eat less what can disturb its weight and overall development.

Quality of water your baby drinks
Apart from correlation between the amount of water and current baby’s age, water composition also plays a crucial role in providing proper hydration to your child. While mineral and spring bottled waters contain plenty of healthy substances, their levels are designed to support adult’s needs, and for newborns it may be too excessive. Regular tap water usually includes mineral’s structures and quantities which are more harmonized with beneficial water contents that babies need. Anyway, it’s not unusual that tap water carries some ill-threatening parasites, what is the greatest danger parents should be afraid of.  Whole House water filters Sydney can provide excellent water purification, so installing them within your home may be ideal solution for keeping water resources safe for baby’s use. You can also fight against eventual bacteria by boiling the water you’ll give to your baby.

Health benefits water brings to both adults and children are tremendous, but still, sensitive newborn’s organism dictates a lot of limitations, requiring from parents to implement many useful advices related to baby’s proper water intake.
