Cold Weather: The Pros and Cons Everybody Should Consider
>> Sep 20, 2016
Cold
weather almost always means cloudy days, the rain and, in some countries, snow.
When the temperature drops, most people prefer to just dive in their beds and
snuggle with their blankets or do something inside their homes. If you love the
cold weather, then you might consider moving in a Tagaytay home for sale. Tagaytay is
known to have a cool, relaxing atmosphere and scenic spots for different
celebrations. Wedding catering is more flavorful
with the tourist destinations like the Taal Lake, Ilog Maria Honey Bee Farm,
and beautiful churches like the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and Don BoscoBatulao
Chapel await every resident and visitor. All of these can be visited without
the traffic and heat hassle compared to other places.
However,
like with anything else, not everyone is a fan of the cold or even rainy days. They
complain that it is too cold and getting out of bed for work in the morning is
one of the worst things in the world. Here are some pros and cons of the cold weather that everyone should keep in mind:
Pros:
Disease-carrying
Bugs Don’t Fare Well in the Cold Weather
Disease-carriers like
ticks and mosquitoes have a low survival rate in the cold. These critters
usually hide and simply wait for the warmer weather to come before feasting.
During the summer of 2012, the West Nile Virus was on a rampage in the US.
However, when the winter came, the number of patients diagnosed with the
disease decreased. It is known that pests usually thrive in milder climates so
a cooler weather will definitely protect you from illnesses.
We
Appreciate the Bright Weather When It’s Cold
Everyone can
appreciate a warm, balmy weather. However, research suggests that week after
week of unchanging temperature will make a person start taking the sun for
granted. The cold or rain every now and then will make those summer days seem
even better when they finally arrive.
The
Cold Brings People Closer
The cold weather can
bring out the snuggle-bunny in every one of us. It’s natural to avoid the cold;
but such temperature makes a person reach out to his or her closest friends and
family. According to a study conducted in 2012, an individual tends to chat
with the important people in his life longer than when it is hot.
Cons:
The
Colds and Flu
Science has proven
that more people get sick during the cold and rainy days. Once the temperature
drops, the immune system limits the supply of white blood cells in the nasal
passage, where viruses often enter the body first. Research also shows that the
cold and flu virus is more stable and stays longer when the air is cold and
dry.
Seasonal
Affective Disorder
Are you experiencing
the rainy day blues every time those drops of water hit the ground? Don’t brush
the feeling off. You might be experiencing the seasonal affective disorder
(SAD). SAD is a type of depression that is related to the changes in seasons.
Treatment for SAD may include light therapy, psychotherapy and medications.
