Hotel Safety Tips for Solo Travelers

>> Feb 2, 2018

Nowadays, more and more people are choosing to travel on their own, so whether you’re in a business trip or you just want to unwind in another place in solitude, you should know that staying in a hotel at Makati by yourself necessitates you to be extra careful.

You want to be safe at all times. And you want to get the best out of your stay in another place.

Here are some hotel safety tips that solo travelers must constantly keep in mind.

Be mindful of your belongings
This should be obvious. This shouldn’t just start the moment you step inside the hotel, but at the very beginning of your journey.

Once you’re already in the lobby, make sure that you always stay with your luggage. This area is often bustling and crammed with people, and sneaky thieves might use this as an opportunity to do their business.

Be wary of strangers
It’s high time that you practice again your parents’ perpetual warning to you when you were a kid. “Don’t talk to strangers”—remember?

Most of the people you’ll meet, of course, have good intentions. And yes, it’s a marvelous idea to try to get to know the locals. But still, there are some people who have not-so-good intentions. These people will exploit your status as a foreigner wandering in an equally foreign place.

It’s essential that you always remain cautious when mingling with other people.

Avoid rooms on the ground floor
It’s recommended that you steer clear of rooms in the ground floor, since these rooms are much easier to break into.

If you can, opt for rooms between the third and sixth floors. These rooms are high enough to elude break-ins. But they’re also low enough that it will be easy for you to get out of the hotel in case of emergencies (such as fire or earthquake).

Check the locks
Nothing wrong with being extra cautious, right?
The moment you enter your room, check the locks—that is, ensure that they’re all in good condition.

Ask for business cards
Ask for at least two business cards. They should have the hotel’s name, address, and contact number.

Keep one with you at all times. In case you get lost, you can just show the card to your taxi driver.

Place the other business card near the phone in your room. Should an emergency arise and you need to call someone for help, you can easily contact the hotel staff.

Have a flashlight with you
Place your flashlight in your bedside table, or somewhere within easy reach. This way, when the electricity suddenly goes out (and the hotel, sadly, has no backup generator), or when there’s an emergency, you’ll have something that can help you navigate the building, even in darkness.

Key Takeaway
More and more people are traveling solo nowadays. Whatever the reason is, when you stay in a hotel in Makati or any other lodging, there are certain precautions that you need to keep in mind. This ensures that you’re always safe, and that you’ll get the best out of your stay in another place.
