Picking the Perfect Statement Rug for Your Flooring

>> Mar 2, 2017

So your solid wooden flooring is finished and it looks beautiful. It’s time to turn your attention to the rest of the room! One advantage of wooden flooring is that it adapts to the different styles you will adopt over the years.

You can change the entire look of a room by changing your furniture, your soft furnishings and your walls: your wooden flooring will fit perfectly. One way to make your room stand out and to emphasise the beauty of your floor is to have a statement rug.

Choosing a statement rug to go with your solid wood flooring is not as easy as simply finding a design that looks nice in the shop. There are several factors to consider, especially if you decide you want one of the the top-end designer rugs available from places like Floor Story, Woven or The Rug Company.

Location, Location, Location

Firstly, you need to consider the location of the rug, the use it will get and the size of rug you need. In a living room, for example, it’s a good rule of thumb to choose a rug that is slightly longer or wider than the sofa it will be nearest to. A rug that is too big will dwarf the furniture - if it’s too small, it will look like a doormat. Will you have furniture near the rug or actually on the rug? If your rug is in a dining room, then you will probably need to place it under the dining furniture. Make sure that you leave enough space for chairs to pulled out from under the table - and be aware that spillages are possible. Colour and Design

When choosing the colour for your rug, consider the colour of your wooden floor. An easy way to make sure that they look good is to remember that they should contrast - a light rug on a dark wooden floor, such as those fitted by http://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/solid-wood-flooring, or a dark rug on a light wooden floor.

Equally, if you have chosen a rug with bright colours or bold patterning, you need to make sure that these don’t clash with cushions, curtains or furniture. Contrast a patterned rug with plain surroundings or a bold, solid-coloured rug with patterned furniture.
