Desk jobs, may it be IT jobs in Myanmar or banking job in Wall Street, can sometimes, if not too often, become too boring. The office is like your second home because of the amount of time you spend there. You are at work during the best parts of your day there.

We tend of develop a sense of belonging in our office, however your office is set up. It may be a shared desk, separate cubicles, a casual set up, you will feel the need to make your workstation as comfortable as you can make it.

If you’re making your desk comfortable, why not add a splash of color and personality to your workspace? Try these tips on livening up your desk:

Organize and de-clutter your desk. Before you start personalizing your desk, clear it out first. Make sure your space is neat, and free from anything that will distract you from your work. Keep your workspace clean, and your stuff will be easy to find. You can also create cute pencil and pen holders out of small buckets to organize your office materials, or if you like, a corkboard where you can pin all your reminders.

Toys. Unleash the child in you. You’re free to use anything, not just toys. Put your favorite toys on display, especially if you’re the type who loves comic books, cartoons, and pop culture. Put it all on your desk, but make sure that you won’t run out of desk to work on. It’s a great way to reduce your stress when you’re feeling a little too swamped with work.

Custom made mugs. Whatever you want, from your favorite movie posters or dialogues, sarcastic lines, cute designs, put them on display on your desk.

Office plants. Put a small pot of greenery in your workspace. Plants don’t just beautify your area, but they improve your concentration, your memory, reduce your stress and diseases. Plants make you work better, in short.

De-motivational posters. These posters are a hundred percent of the time sarcastic and that makes them hilarious. There are thousands of them on the internet, and all you’ll need to do is download them, print them out, and stick them to your walls to demotivate you. Or just make you laugh whenever you look at them.

Or, inspirational quotes, if you need the reminder. Print out some inspirational messages from your favorite authors or movies, or from people you look up to. What’s important is that they give you reason and motivated you through the entire day, and remind you of why you are working hard.

Those are just some of the ways that you can personalize your space. It’s always up to you on how you plan to materialize your character and individuality and put it all on display on your desk. However, some companies discourage the personalization of workspace. Check if company rules allow customization, if they don’t, that’s unfortunate, but if they do, personalize away! Don’t forget to top off your desk with a picture of family, or your significant other!
