Guide to Start the Cornhole Game with Your Family
>> May 9, 2017
Outdoor games with the family are downright fun. There's something about
the sun and fresh air which injects extra energy into any game played. Even
board games seem better when played at an outdoor table. The best thing about
outdoor games is their ability to be invented out of thin air. Perhaps this is
how the official cornhole game was
created.
The cornhole game is known by many names. For example, corn or bean bag
toss, or soft horseshoes. The basics required for the game are the board and
the bags. Nevertheless, if you want to go the official route, there are
guidelines to follow. For instance, the cornhole board needs to be four feet
long and two feet wide with a six-inch hole centered nine inches from the top
and a foot from each side. Official cornhole bags need to measure six square inches
and weigh 15 ounces.
Where to throw the bags is also an official setting. The board needs to
be placed on a level setting with two pitch boxes parallel to it that are three
feet wide. Smaller players throw from 21 feet while older players toss from 27
feet.
Competition is between single opponents or doubles. When single players
are participating, each throws four corn bags in the direction of the hole. In
doubles, the players share the bags until all have been thrown. The individual
or team which receives the most points in the first "inning" tosses
first in the next round.
And what are the scoring rules? Three points are awarded for those who
get the corn bag directly in the hole. One point is given to a player if their
bag lands anywhere on the board, including on the edge of the circle. A player
receives no points when if their bag doesn't reach the board. Once a player or
team reaches 21 points a winner is declared.
There is plenty of detailed information on the official way to play the
cornhole game at sites like Custom Corn Toss. You can also find forums and
sites on how to build cornhole boards, sew together bags, and the best ways to
hold competitions. Regardless of what you do, have fun with your family and
don't get too competitive in your quest for fun in the sun.
