Many people think that excess weight only ends up affecting the way they look. This is not true. Being overweight or obese can not only make a person look unappealing to others, but it can also bring with it a host of other health problems.

Blood Pressure
When you are overweight, your heart will feel the need to pump out the blood at a harder pace so as to ensure that it reaches everywhere. And over time, this will inevitably lead to high blood pressure which can cause conditions like kidney failure, heart disease, and so on. The only way to bring your blood pressure under control is by cutting back on your food and losing weight. Type 2 Diabetes

Instead, any excess weight you gain can cause you to contract cancers like breast cancer, colon cancer, kidney cancer, and so on. It is believed that the excess fat cells in the body end up releasing hormones that will impact the growth of the cells in the body, which can eventually cause cancer. And considering that the second biggest cause of death in the US is cancer, you should realize how important it is to keep your weight in check.

Sleep Apnea
A person suffering from sleep apnea will generally not be able to sleep peacefully. Instead, their sleep is likely to be interrupted by breathing problems. This can not only cause one to feel sleepy during the daytime, but the person can even end up having a heart failure. When you are overweight, your body will likely store excess fat around the neck region, thereby making the airway narrower. This will eventually cause difficulties in breathing, and you will start suffering from sleep apnea very soon. Hence, it is very important that you quickly try out some weight loss programs and at least get rid of the excess fat around the neck.

Fatty Liver Disease
The disease occurs because of excess fat accumulation in the liver which eventually ends up causing injury to it. In the worst case scenario, your liver can fail suddenly. One main reason for fatty liver disease is the weight of the body. If you are overweight or obese, then you should expect some kind of impact on the liver. And if you are middle-aged, then chances of a fatty liver disease increase multifold. Unfortunately, the fatty liver disease is something that can affect even those who never drink any alcohol.

Osteoarthritis
A person who has osteoarthritis will experience stiffness and pain in the joints, especially those of the knees, lower back, and hips. Though injury and old age are significant reasons for osteoarthritis, your body weight also plays a big role in the same. The more you weight, the more pressure will be felt by the joints of the knees, hips etc. This will slowly wear them out and you will start experiencing joint pains.
