Finding a Worthy Charity
>> May 16, 2016
If
you are looking for a charitable way to give time or
money, it's important to choose a charity that is reliable and supports causes
that match your beliefs and ideals. In almost every area, there are many
options for charitable giving. It's worth the time to do a little research on
all the options, and choose one where you feel your contribution will be well
applied.
Picking
a Local Organisation Over an International One
You
are probably familiar with the many well-known international charitable
organisations. While there are certainly worthy choices on that list, there are some advantages to choosing a local
organisation. For example, when you give to a charity in Melbourne,
you can be confident your gift is going to be used in your local community.
While
it is sometimes great (and necessary) to give to a charity working in another
part of the world, there is a deep sense of satisfaction knowing you are
contributing to the betterment of your own community. Another advantage of
choosing a local charity is the possibility of volunteering your time as well
as making a financial contribution.
Consider
a Children's Charity
It
seems like there is a charitable organisation for practically every cause,
issue, or recipient. There are organisations that help animals, the
environment, specific political or religious causes, and of course, people. One
of the most rewarding types of charities to give to is one focused on children.
Of course, there are many worthy causes, but knowing you are making a
difference in the life of a child is one of the best feelings in the world.
While
every children's charity will have a slightly different mission statement, a universal idea is that every child deserves
to grow up in a healthy environment that promotes happiness. This is a
difficult goal for children who are born into disadvantaged situations, so many
children's charities seek to give those children the inspiration, fun, and
opportunity they may not get from their home, school, or neighbourhood.
Charities
might differ in how they attempt to reach children and better their lives. Some
have a building or campus set up where children can come for classes,
recreation, or even longer camp-style programs. Some of these camps also
provide refuge for children affected by natural disasters such as flooding or
bushfires. Many classes or camps focus on allowing children to learn new skills
or enjoy recreational activities they wouldn't otherwise be able to experience.
