All-Natural CBD Dog Treat Recipe

>> Sep 20, 2018

They’re lip-smacking good, and great for your pet’s health! CBD treats are the latest craze in the pet world, and it’s easy to see why. Really, what pet owner wouldn’t love the fact that they can now literally spoil their pet with better health?

Sharing CBD With Our Dogs

You’ve likely heard about the countless ways CBD products can improve health, maybe you’ve even taken one for yourself. It’s common to use CBD to help treat anxiety, pain, inflammation, epilepsy, appetite, and it’s a great companion to chemotherapy as it reduces its nasty side effects.

If this sounds way too miraculous for you . . . great job for being suspicious and intelligent. There are big claims about CBD, but fortunately, science is backing up a lot of these claims. CBD products can help with many medical conditions because it activates the endocannabinoid system (ECS) along with other therapeutic and regulatory receptors in the body.

All mammals have an ECS and produce their own cannabinoids to activate several receptors which are found on cells. Upon activation, the receptors promote homeostasis and improve both cognitive and physiological functions related to the specific cell/area they are found in.

In layperson’s talk; when a normal and healthy biological function like inflammation, pain, or anxiety becomes abnormal and more severe than what is warranted, an organism creates endocannabinoids to reset and realign them so they function as should. CBD oil works by increasing the number of endocannabinoids in the body and will activate the same receptors when endocannabinoids are too few in number.

So whether you want to make CBD dog treats for anxiety or to help your dog’s arthritis, CBD has you covered.

Buying CBD oil vs. Buying CBD Treats

Before we can spoil our dog’s with mouthwatering treats that improve their health, we need to buy CBD oil. There are a lot of wonderful companies out there selling great CBD products — though they are sometimes lost in the murky waters of deceitful companies trying to jump on the bandwagon. But with a few tips, it’s a breeze finding the right CBD company for your pet.

Tips For Finding A Great CBD Company:

Certificate of Analysis (COA): All great CBD companies provide a COA. This means the CBD product was tested in a lab by an unaffiliated 3rd party to determine the presence and concentration of cannabinoids in the CBD product. In essence, you want the COA to match the product’s label.
Money Back: The biggest side effect of CBD products is sometimes they just don’t work. This could be due to body chemistry, the medical condition, etc. Because of this, you’ll want to look for a return policy that offers a full refund even if the product is opened.
Customer Service — You’re taking a chance if you buy a CBD product from a company without reviews. As well, great companies know CBD products are new and that there is a lot of confusion about them, so they will go out of their way to provide you with correct information — some will even start up social media groups where you can talk with fellow pet owners.

Now that you know how to find a trustworthy company let’s buy some CBD. This is where you can skip all the work and just buy CBD treats — you’ll have to at least buy the CBD oil/tincture if you want to make treats at home. Don’t worry; making your own CBD treats is simple — you’ll throw a few ingredients together, make a dough, cut out the treats, and bake.

How to choose the right CBD product:

CBD Calculator: You’ll need a rough estimate of your dog’s weight — a general ballpark for both weight and the dosage is fine as CBD is non-toxic and you really can’t give too much.
Pet CBD: Pets need standard full spectrum CBD. This is the same CBD oil that the majority of people consume, but for us, there are some deviations like raw or isolate. They are more experimental versions, and their effectiveness is questionable to put it simply.

Making CBD Dog Treats At Home

Unlike other CBD treat recipes, you’re not going to find the precise amount of CBD oil you should use. There is no way I can say use one tablespoon of CBD oil and expect that you’re using the same CBD product. This means your CBD oil might have a different concentration resulting in an incorrect dosage. You're just making a dough, and your dog isn’t going to care if their treat came out too oily, so don’t stress over it.
