Conditions And Restrictions For The Hip Replacement Surgery

For making the surgical procedure for the hip replacement the surgeons replace the damaged part of your hip region by using the artificial parts which are generally made up of metal, hard plastic or ceramic.This surgical procedure is also called arthroplasty and arthritis is the most common reason for your hip replacement surgery.
Conditions for the hip replacement surgery

Conditions which initiate for making the surgical procedure for the hip replacement include:

  • Osteoarthritis: It is a very common chronic as well as painful joint condition. At the place of joints in our body where two bones come close to each other, the endings of these bones are protected from the friction by the cartilage. In osteoarthritis, this cartilage gets wear and tear or damage and causes pain and other problems due to friction between the two bones within the joints.
  • Osteonecrosis: When the bones of the hip joints are collapsed and deformed due to the insufficient blood supply to the ball part of the hip griddle, the condition is called osteonecrosis.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: Due to the inflammation of the joints hip griddle becomes stiff and painful and this condition is called rheumatoid arthritis.

According to your surgery, whether it is related to the posterior or anterior part of your hip joint, your surgeon will advise you about several restrictions for the movement of your hip joint during few months after making the hip replacement surgery. These will help you to avoid the dislocation of your new hip joint after the surgery. Some restrictions are given below.

  • If you have posterior hip replacement surgical procedure, you should not keep your legs in a cross position. For example, you will not bring up your foot at the time of pitting shoes or shocks.
  • You will have to bend always less than 90 degrees. Normally, it is safe for you to keep your knee at the below position of your hip joint. For maintaining this condition you will have to avoid low seats, deep cushions, picking up the items from the floor while you are seated and pulling up your blanket when you are laid down on your bed.
  •  If you have the surgery for the anterior hip joint, you will have to avoid turning your foot towards the outside, lying by creating pressure on your stomach, bending toward the backward position, making extend position of your operative leg at your behind.

Depending on your progressive condition, your surgeon will allow you to perform the normal activities.
