Renovating or remodeling a home can happen for a number of reasons. It could be due to the fact that you did not have the requisite finance to remodel the home when you bought it in the first place, it could be due to the fact that your neighbour has remodelled their home with the latest designs and is the envy of the neighbourhood and you want to better that, it could be due to the fact that you do not like the current look and feel of your home and want it to be better. Whatever the reason, you need to avoid the following mistakes so that you have peace of mind while the work gets done.

•  Ensure that the designer who is remodeling your home is good. There are many people masquerading as experts, so do a due diligence, check their portfolio, speak to people who have used their services and ask if they are satisfied, ask the designer to give a design plan for your home and based on this you can select the best one.
• Ensure that the workers who come to remodel your home are bonded and insured. If they do not have insurance and if any accident occurs in your premises you will be liable to pay all damages and it will hit your finances really hard.
• Ensure that the company has the required licenses to conduct business in your state. Many states have different rules and licenses so ensure that all of it is covered.
• When the workers arrive to work, make sure that the furniture etc., are moved to another room or better still you can do what I did while remodeling my home, I rented storage units near me and moved my furniture there. This way all my things were safe and the workers also had enough room to work. In fact renting a storage unit saved us from a lot of hassles.
• Children can get hurt when remodeling is on. You need to tell your children not to go inside rooms where the work is going on. Make rules for them and make them abide by it.
• Dust is a big problem when remodeling work starts. It is not enough to just cover your furniture with cloth or blankets, the dust will get in. If you or your children or elders are allergic to dust then the best option would be to go to a hotel and stay there for the duration of the work. Or you can crash at a relative or friend’s place. You do not want hospital visits while the work is on, so make the right decision.
