4 Ways to Prevent Lice Infestation and Stay on the Safe Side
>> May 2, 2018
A lice infestation is very
off-putting. It can affect your life in so many ways. If lice are affecting
your children, it can lead to them being bullied and stigmatized in school.
Depending on the lice
treatment, it may take quite a while before you are
lice-free again. The only way to stay safe is to avoid being infected
completely. This can be done by using prevention techniques that keep you and
your family safe. Some
prevention techniques are:
1.
Knowing
causes
Knowing
the types of lice and what causes them will keep you on your toes. Also knowing
how they are spread will ensure you are more careful. There are three types of
lice; head lice, pubic lice and body lice. The first two are transmitted from
one person to another while body lice come about as a result of poor hygiene.
Head lice tends to affect children the most as they share items a lot. In that
way, a lice carrier transmits the lice to a healthy person. You should warn
your children about sharing items such as combs. You should also abstain to
prevent transmission of pubic lice.
2.
Knowing
symptoms
When
you know the signs and symptoms of lice infestation, you will be able to get
rid of the lice before they spread. A lice outbreak is highly unlikely to go
away on its own. It needs rigorous treatment. You should research on the signs
and symptoms and also educate your child on the same. Should they notice a
carrier, they will know what precautions to take to avoid infection. When you
are washing and combing your child’s hair, be on the lookout to see if they
have any.
3.
Hygiene
Seeing
as body lice has mostly to do with hygiene, keeping clean should be a priority.
Ensure that your place of residence is always cleaned regularly. Change your
beddings at least on a weekly basis. You also need to shower regularly with
soap and remember to wash your hair as well. Find out the areas of your
household where lice are likely to breed waiting for someone to latch on. Do
deep cleaning and vacuuming of such areas as often as once a month to keep the
away.
4.
Correct
products
There
has been an emergence of products that can be used to prevent lice. These can
be quite helpful. However, be careful not to use products that are too strong
as they are likely to cause harm to your skin and scalp. Instead, choose the
correct product that will work for your skin and scalp. It is mostly the smell
of the products that keeps the smell away. Instead of drowning yourself in
chemicals, you can try out some natural remedies. These include tea tree oil,
coconut oil, eucalyptus oil, rosemary oil and even menthol. Don’t overuse. You
can add them to your shampoo, conditioner and even some body butters.
